  1. Edgar's Blues

From the recording Passage

Lyrics

Edgar's Blues

Angry Edgar crossed his toes and cursed in ancient tuning.
His song could not be understood unless your voice would join in with him.
But Angry Edgar stomped his foot so hard the rhythm got hurt.
His song would make you cry though, if you'd sing ignore the heart alert.
His heart said

Hey
Put me down
Put me down
I know how to stand
Hey Hey
Put me down
(Put me right down)

Angry Edgar looks inside, sees only half a heart but not a way to fix it.
His heartbeats won't be heard unless your hands clap in sync with them.
But Angry Edgar's heart is whole, so whole and big it hurts him.
If only Edgar knew, he would not try to fix the wrong thing.

But all he keeps saying is
Hey
Put me down...

When Edgar sings the anger of a thousand hearts dissolves.
His own heart comes alive and let his body feel its pulse.
And to this blend of beat and voice no one remains immune
And for a moment even Edgar's face turns mild and seems less filled with gloom
But then Angry Edgar stomps his foot so hard his eye gets wet,
From wounded rhythm that is, not from bitterness but from regret.

Yet all you'll hear him say is
Hey
Put me down
Put me down
I know how to stand
Hey Hey
Put me down
(Put me right down).
